We’re partnering with Operation Smile on a Twitter-centric fundraising campaign called 140 Smiles, which will kick off at the TWTRCON launch party on May 3oth. As part of that, TWTRCON producer Modern Media has agreed to help Operation Smile and their agency, Common Knowledge, with hooking the campaign into the Twitter API.

We’re psyched to announce that the TWTRCON after party will feature work from artists who have used Twitter and other social networks to find an audience and new opportunities.  Over the past several years Natasha Wescoat has done just that.  Her social media savvy has helped get her work into over over 1000 private and corporate collections worldwide and (more…)

TWTRCON Snail Mail

by Christopher Carson | Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 | No Comments

As many of you know, we are working hard to get the word out about TWTRCON SF 09 on Twitter itself.  We also have a Facebook event page and a LinkedIn page (though we haven’t done a great job of taking care of either of those groups to date – we’ll work on that).  And we have lots of great marketing partners who are helping us get the word out. So far so good. But we do believe in integrated marketing, so some of you received a postcard from us last week.  Some of you tweeted about how ironic it was to get a postcard about a Twitter event; we also caught some flak for sending out a press release via email a couple of weeks ago.

Since we couldn’t afford to send the postcards out to a very large group, we thought it would be fun to share a copy of it on our site, for those of you who wanted to see what it looked like.  (Maybe your picture is on it?) (more…)

Come Early to Get Really Twitter Smart: Announcing Laura Fitton’s Twitter for Business 101 Pre-Conference!

by Christopher Carson | Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 | No Comments

You don’t need to be a Twitter expert to come to TWTRCON.  (In fact, we would contend that there is no such thing as a Twitter expert.  Twitter is constantly changing and evolving, and very few of us have been twittering longer than a few months. If someone tells you they’re a Twitter expert, be very suspicious!)

But if you’re concerned that you may not know enough about Twitter yet to get a lot out of the conference, we have added a breakfast keynote that is specially designed to make sure we all get a chance to catch up on the basics.

We are delighted to announce that Laura Fitton (@pistachio) will be delivering a pre-conference keynote called Twitter for Business 101.

TWTRCON SF 09 Go Standby Program

by Christopher Carson | Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 | One Comment

Since launching TWTRCON, we have had incredible feedback from people about how great the conference looks. And lots of people are signing up to come.

We’re also hearing from a lot of people who say they would like to come, but can’t afford it. We’ve been trying to figure out what to do about this.  Much of the passion, innovation and hard work that make Twitter such a powerful platform is coming from people who may not have traditional corporate jobs with training budgets or expense accounts.

Case Study: Competing in the Global Neighborhood

by Christopher Carson | Friday, May 1st, 2009 | One Comment

Some of you may have heard that there are a couple of other Twitter conferences out there besides ours: namely 140 The Twitter Conference in Mountain View and the 140 Characters Conference by Jeff Pulver in New York.  In fact, some of you may have received tweets from the helpful folks at 140tc telling you that you can get twice the content (two days) at half the price at their conference as opposed to TWTRCON SF 09.

christineptran: @bureau149 Well it’s half the cost and double the length. Less PR-types and more community-building types perhaps. #140tc (more…)

Operation Smile: TWTRCON’s Non Profit Partner

by Tonia Ries | Saturday, April 25th, 2009 | No Comments

We wanted to let everyone know that Operation Smile has joined the TWTRCON SF 09 team as our official non profit partner!  Many non profit organizations are ahead of curve when it comes to the creative and effective use of social media to connect communities and organize activities around a specific mission or cause.  We are delighted that Operation Smile, one of the leading organizations in the use of Twitter and other social networking tools, has chosen TWTRCON as a partner to help launch a very exciting new campaign.  We’ll be ready to share more details about the 140 Smiles campaign next week–it will be an exciting opportunity for all TWTRCON attendees to experience a Twitter campaign in action!

If you are with a non profit or governemtal organization and would like to register for TWTRCON SF 09, we hope you will find our non profit rate to be affordable so you can guarantee a seat.  If you’re really conserving funds right now, you can always try our Go Standby program.  Both are detailed on our Register page – please let us know if you have any questions, and don’t wait too long; there’s a good chance we will sell out!

Press Release: TWTRCON SF 09 Program

by Tonia Ries | Friday, April 24th, 2009 | No Comments

We issued our second press release today, working with our Communications partner PR Newswire.   You can see the release online here, or read the text below.  We are blown away by how quickly this program has come together, and by  the incredible quality of the speakers that have agreed to participate.  Thank you to everyone who helped out and made suggestions!  Do keep sending us your ideas, because conference programs always evolve up to the last minute.

We are also working on the plans for the “UnSession” that we want  to organize over lunch.  Attendees will be able to suggest topics that they want to talk about and volunteer to lead discussions; each table can seat up to 10 people who want to talk about the same topic.  We want to create lots of (more…)

6 Ideas for Twitter in Business … and Counting

by Tonia Ries | Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 | No Comments

@evanwolf, editor of Skype Journal,  sent us 6 ideas for ways that Twitter can be used to change the way we do business.   We’d love to see more ideas added to this list! Send them to #twtrcon ideas and we’ll update this blog post with your ideas.  How many do you think we can get to?

  1. Twitter isn’t just about marketing and sales; it’s about doing work within firewalls, in wirearchy and adhocracy. (@evanwolf)
  2. Twitter in the staffing life cycle. (Get @JohnSumser on this.) (@evanwolf)
  3. Automating business process alerts (inventory’s low!) through twitter to trigger virtuous behavior (let’s restock).  (@evanwolf)
  4. Building better products through decentralized collective conversation.  (@evanwolf)
  5. Incorporating twittering into performance reviews.  (@evanwolf)
  6. Twitter in Project Communications: microstatus, stakeholder comms, flocking, coagulation.  (@evanwolf)
